Afler creation at the TsNIITOCHMASH of the -cartridge SP.lO-pistol SR.1» complex materialised the very idea to add to this com¬plex a small machine gun chambered for the 9×21 cartridge, this gave a firer the possibili¬ty to annihilate at a range of 200 meters a single live target outfitted with individual pro¬tection means of the II level, as well as to deliver aimed fire holding the weapon with one or two hands, with the use of a shoulder rest, carrying it in a pistol way to be quick to open fire. The main customer in this case proved to be the FSB agency. The updating stage of the submachine gun “Veresk» ended in the mid-1998.
The SP.2 9mm submachin gun was adopt¬ed for service in 2000.

This weapon is noted for its gas-operated unit and locking the barrel bore by turning of the bolt with arrangement of a magazine in the pistol grip. A folded operating handle is locat¬ed on the right side.
The firing mechanism is of a striking type. The thumb safety is located on the right side and in its locked position blocks the groove for the travel of the operating handle. A sepa¬rate thumb selector is arranged on the left side and ensures control over modes of sin¬gle-shot and automatic fire. These thumb safety levers are in easy reach tor a thumb of the hand that squeezes the trigger.

The weapon is fed from the box-type magazine with a checkerboard arrange¬ment of cartridges. After experenditure of all cartridges the magazine follower is stuck into the bolt, thereby together with a two-sided latch speeding up the weapon’s reloading.
The pistol grip and fore grip are made of a strike-proof plastic material. The stock is metallic, folded in the upper-forward position and is raised on the level of the bore axis. A compensator is attached to the barrel.

In the SP.2M updated variant materialized on its fore grip a folded front handel instead of a rigid support, thereby enchancing the weapon’s handling and a low dispersion low pattern when firing it with hands (primarily this front handle was made from aluminum alloy
then it was made from plastic). In a folded state this front handle makes up a part of the fore grip. The tumb safety somewhat changed. Besides, the muzzle device is also chanded, namely, instead of a muzzle break-compensator appeared a barrel mouthpiece-support that protects the wrist of a firer resting on a fore grip from burns that may be caused by powder gases.
