PP-90 & PP-90M

When Ihe Tula-based KB Instrument Design Bureau was engaged in development light small arms in the interest of law enforce¬ment agencies it offered already in the year 1991 the PP-90 folded small submachine gun. And in ihe year 1993 appeared the PP-90M modernised version. In terms of its destination it was the weapon close to a «hidden» or cam¬ouflaged version and primarily intended for a surprise materialisation in the hand of its user who was quick to open fire.

The PP-90M in a folded form constitutes a flat case of 270×90x32 dimensions and is ready for combat use by pressing on a lug of the latch and turning the front part of the bar¬rel receiver around its axis, in this case appears a pistol grip (a stamped opening for insertion of magazine) with a magazine and a hinged trigger guard. Together with a bolt cocking (via a protruding below hook) and readiness for combat fire takes 3-4 seconds given the proficiency of a shooter.

The PP-90M is blowback operated, in this case the largest part of the bolt travel and the shot from the -counterrecoil thrust” ensure extremely smooth work of its parts. A safety-selector lever in its -safety” position locks a sear and in this case a bolt is being kept in its rear position until occurs a compete coupling of Ihe front and rear parts of the barrel receiver. When you set a selector lever in its single-shot posi¬tion, the sear is being retained under the stress of the mainspring against the trigger, after release of the bolt the sear becomes free and is shifted forward by the action of its own spring, thereby being separated from the trigger and catches the bolt after its recoil. In the mode of a continuous fire (automatic) the sear doesn’t move from its place and thus being not separat¬ed with the trigger (the PP-90 modification had only an automatic mode of fire). For aimed fire provision is made for stamped collapsible sight posts for the front sight and the constant rear sight. A laser target designator may be attached between the raised sight posts.
