PP-19 “Bizon-2″

The unification characteristic for the current system of small arms was clearly manifested itself in the creation of subma¬chine guns system on the basis of assault rifles. Designers of the Izhevsk Machine-Building Plant had used the approved in the course of production the famous «Kalashnikov System». Two sons of the famous designers, namely, V.M. Kalshnikov and A.E. Dragunov headed the team of developers. In 1996 the 9 mm PP-19 ■Bizon-2» submachine gun chambered for the 9×18 PM cartridge was adopted for service with the Interior Ministry (MVD). The 7N16 cartridge with enhanced pene¬tration capability also may be used.
While retaining many family features the «Bizon-2» has a number of its own salient
features. The weapon is blowback operat¬ed. A barrel rod serves only as a housing for the return spring. The arrangement of the return sprig under a barrel enhances the stability of the weapon. The firing mecha¬nism and a safety-selector lever bear strong resemblance to the assault rifle. The folded stock was derived from the AKS-74 assault rifle. There is a standard plate to mount collimating, optical and night sights.
The worm-type magazine with car¬tridges arranged in helical grooves is a salient feature of the submachine gun »Bizon-2». The very arrangement of a mag¬azine under the barrel provides for the shift¬ing of the center of gravity of the weapon in forward direction and downward, thereby enhancing the stability during the fire.

The plate of the curve-slide sight is graduated up to 100 meters for the 9×18 PM cartridge and up to 150 meters for a high impulse car¬tridge. A compact flash suppressor is attached to the barrel. The «Bizon-2» Sb.03 (family version) submachine guns may be shipped complete with the PBS (silencer) and outfitted with an integrated silencer in the form of the chamber attached to the barrel which absorbs the powder gasses exhausted through slots in the barrel’s walls to reduce the initial bullet velocity bellow the sonic speed. The removable tactical silencer may be also attached instead of the flash suppressor on other versions of the «Bizon-2». The «Bizon-2» submachine gun is noted for convenient handling and its excellent low dispersion shot pattern.
The hinged folded stock in the upper-forward position resting on the receiver may be available.
In 1997 the «Bizon» Sb.07 submachine gun chambered for the 7.62×25 TT cartridge was created noted for a high muzzle velocity, penetration capability, and flat trajectory.
In 2001 the MVD adopted for service the «Bizon-2-01» chambered for the 9×19 car¬tridge. The «Bizon-2-02» submachine gun is chambered for the 9×17 «kurts» cartridge.
There is an experimental version with a removable adapter intended for the installation of box magazines. There were also created self-loaded modifications chambered for the 9×17 (”service carbine-), 9×18 and 9×19 car¬tridges. The «Bizon-2» may be presented in 12 modifications dependent on its type of the stock, firing mechanism, presence or absence of integrated silencer and other components.
